About the artist

Carlota Soto is a Mexican-Quebecois painter based in Montreal and the South Shore. She works primarily in acrylic, drawing inspiration from the movement of the body as well as the diverse forms found in nature. The motifs in her paintings are highly varied, bringing out duality and contrast. Her surreal and expressive world is shaped by her love of fashion, subtle horror, and her nostalgic photographs. Her caricatural vision of the world is represented in her work through her characters with long, slender faces, often in exaggerated proportions.
